Hi, My name is Andrea and I want to share with you what happened to me.  I decided a long time ago that I wanted to work for myself but I didn't know what I wanted to do.  I just knew that I had lots of computer skills and I loved to cook and was interested in nutrition.  

One day I lost my job and my husband wasn't happy in his.  We were very interested in the French Alps and going hiking and skiing there and we constantly followed a website of the area.  We came across an advert for chalet hosts and decided to go for it.  We were lucky enough to be able to put our mortgage on hold for 6 months to enable us to go and experience life outside the office.  I put a menu together and we applied for the job.  We met the owners of the company and 24 hours later we go the job.  

Off we went a few months later and I can tell you that the experience was amazing and we learned so much from it and met some great people not to mention the great skiing.  It was half way through the season that we decided we could do this ourselves.  My husband knew how to put a website together and how to do a financial spreadsheet for our business venture.  We found a chalet we liked and put in an offer which was accepted.  We began our journey into being business owners and were excited to get going.  We put our house up for sale as we needed the equity to purchase our chalet in the French Alps.  We sold it by August and we completed the sale of the chalet around the same time.  We purchased everything we needed for the chalet and hired a van and drove out to our new life.  It was exciting and also a bit scary as well.  We had put all our finances into this business venture but life is for living right!!  You should go after your dreams and take risks and never look back.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained!  If we hadn't have done this we would always have wondered what if.  I didn't want to live with regret about anything in my life and you have to go after what you want.  Not everyone has the courage to do this but I did it.  

Well my husband decided he didn't want to be with me anymore and that was the end of our business together.  Bummer, now what do I do.  I went back to the UK for a year and the chalet was sold within that year.  I decided that I was not going to give up and that I was going to return to the French Alps and work for my friends who I had worked for before.  They were very supportive.  I created my own business as a mobile chef and cleaner/housekeeper.  I got some regular work and worked hard and had some great times over the next few years.  This was not enough though as I was not making the money that I wanted and I was still working for someone else and they were making all the money and just paying me a salary.
